Teamwork in Motion

Equipment list

  • 4 Whiteboards

  • Markers

Explanation

This activity is a dynamic and interactive way to get students thinking creatively and collaboratively. The class is divided into small groups of 3-5 students. The teacher poses a question, and group members discuss their ideas within their teams. Each student must then approach the whiteboard one by one, but with a twist: each person must find a different, creative way to get to the board compared to their teammates. This could mean taking a different route, moving in a specific way (like hopping or skipping), or using an unusual method to approach the whiteboard.

Once everyone in the group has had their turn to write their ideas on the board, the class comes back together. One student from each group will then present the ideas discussed by their group, promoting sharing and collaboration. This activity encourages critical thinking, teamwork, and a bit of fun physical movement.

Variations / Progressions

Variations:

Themed Whiteboards: Assign a different question or theme to each whiteboard and have students rotate to different boards to contribute ideas to each one.

Progression:

Beginner: Start with easy, open-ended questions that allow for creative, quick responses. For example, “What are the benefits of teamwork?” or “What makes a good leader?”

Intermediate: Introduce more subject-specific questions that require deeper thought, such as “What factors influence climate change?” or “How do different ecosystems support biodiversity?”

Advanced: As students get more comfortable with the activity, ask complex, critical-thinking questions that require them to connect different concepts or problem-solve creatively.

Participant feedback:

  • The physical movement adds an element of fun and energy to the lesson, helping to keep students engaged.

  • Some students appreciate the collaborative nature of the task, as it allows them to share and develop ideas in a group setting.

  • A few students may feel shy or hesitant about the movement part, so be sure to create a supportive, inclusive environment where everyone feels comfortable participating.
